SEEDTIME AND HARVEST

Genesis 8:22 · KJV5 min read

“While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”
Genesis 8:22 KJV

There is a law that God established in creation: the law of seedtime and harvest.

Genesis 1:11 reveals something powerful about the way God designed life: every seed carries within it the potential of another harvest.

God did not merely create today; He put tomorrow inside today.

The seed is the hidden future of the harvest. Every harvest contains a seed, and every seed contains a harvest.

Therefore, your future is being determined by what you are planting today.

One testimony can give birth to another testimony. One act of obedience can open the door to another dimension of God's purpose. One sacrifice today can produce a harvest tomorrow.

Let's define a SEED.

S — SACRIFICE

A seed is something you are willing to release today because you believe there is a tomorrow.

Jesus said:

“Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone…” — John 12:24

Seedtime involves releasing something from your hand so that it can produce something greater in your future.

Sacrifice is present release with future expectation.

Sometimes, God asks you to release your time. Sometimes your resources. Sometimes your comfort. Sometimes an opportunity. Sometimes He asks you to let go of something that is good because He has something better ahead.

The seed does not remain in the farmer's hand and become a harvest.

What remains in your hand cannot become your harvest.

There are things God has placed in your hand today that are meant to become tomorrow's harvest. Release them in obedience, faith and love.

E — ENGAGEMENT

Engagement is what I deliberately do today to participate in the future I desire.

Ecclesiastes 11:6 says:

“In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand…”

You cannot wait for the future without participating in the present.

There is no future without present engagement.

Your prayers today matter. Your study today matters. Your service today matters. Your generosity today matters. Your discipline today matters. Your decisions today matter.

You don't simply wait for the future to happen.

You participate with God in creating the future through your engagement today.

The future is not built by wishes; it is built by seeds.

E — EXPRESSION

Every seed is an expression.A seed expresses what is inside it. When planted and properly nurtured, its hidden potential begins to manifest.

In the same way, what you consistently express begins to reproduce in your life.

If you consistently express faith, faith grows. If you consistently express love, love produces an atmosphere around your life. If you consistently express excellence, excellence becomes part of your character. If you consistently express generosity, generosity becomes a lifestyle.

Your repeated words, actions, attitudes and choices are seeds. Therefore, be intentional about what you are expressing.

Don't continually sow what you don't want to harvest.

D — DESTINATION

Harvest is the destination of every seed.

Galatians 6:7 declares:

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”

Before you plant a seed, ask yourself:

“Am I comfortable with where this seed is going?”

Because every seed has a destination.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 reminds us that there is a season for everything—“a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.”

You cannot violate the principle of seedtime and expect the harvest without the process.

BETWEEN SEEDTIME AND HARVEST IS TIME

This is where many people become discouraged. They plant today and expect tomorrow's harvest immediately.

But seedtime is not harvest time.

Between the seed and the harvest is time. And during that time, there must be watering, nurturing, patience and faithfulness.

Proverbs 21:20 says:

“There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise…”

The wise understand that what God has placed in their hands must be stewarded. Don't dig up your seed because you cannot yet see the harvest. Don't abandon your prayer because the answer has not yet manifested. Don't stop serving because nobody has recognized you. Don't stop doing good because the result has not appeared.

Keep watering your seed.

God is working in the unseen. Your seed is not dead because you cannot see it. It is developing beneath the surface.

Look at your life today and ask:

What am I planting?

What you plant determines what you will eventually harvest.

Plant faith.

Plant God's Word.

Plant prayer.

Plant love.

Plant excellence.

Plant generosity.

Plant obedience.

Plant diligence.

Plant the right relationships.

Plant into the Kingdom.

And trust God with the process.

Your tomorrow is already hidden in today's seed.

Prayer & confession

Father, in the name of Jesus, I thank You because You are the God of seedtime and harvest. I receive wisdom to recognize the seeds You have placed in my hands today.

I declare that I will not waste my seed. I will not eat my future today. I will sow deliberately, engage faithfully, express what is consistent with Your Word, and remain patient until my harvest comes.

Every good seed I have planted in obedience, faith, prayer, service, sacrifice and generosity, let it produce a multiplied harvest according to Your purpose.

I declare that my seeds will not die. My prayers will not be wasted. My labour will not be in vain. My giving will produce fruit. My obedience will open new doors. My faith will produce testimonies.

I receive grace to remain faithful between seedtime and harvest. I will not give up before my harvest appears.

Today, I plant seeds that will bless my tomorrow. I plant seeds that will bless my family. I plant seeds that will advance God's Kingdom. I plant seeds that will produce testimonies for generations after me.

My tomorrow is blessed because I am sowing rightly today. My harvest is coming. My testimony is coming. My increase is coming. My season is changing. In Jesus' mighty name.

Amen!

Amen.

Carry it with you

Has this Word touched something in you?
